Providing care for another individual is one of the most rewarding things you can do.  It takes knowledge, empathy, compassion, strength, and much more.  In this training, we will show you the proper ways to provide personal care and how to provide care with dignity and respect.  Topics include: communication, infection control, caregiver code of conduct, personal choice, skin anatomy, oral care, bathing and more.

Positive Behavior Support, frequently referred to as PBS, is a person-centered approach that can improve relationships between members and their caregivers. It’s a set of research-based practices used to reduce challenging behavior while improving quality of life. 

The training model educates DSPs and caregivers on skills, tools, and resources they can use to assist in the behavior change process. This often leads to an improved environment for the individual receiving DDD services.

In order to take the ZOOM PBS class, you must agree that you will: 1. Print the packet prior to the class (you must show trainer the packet on zoom) 2. In this DDD approved course, participants will learn how to identify abuse, neglect, and exploitation and the expectations for mandated reporting.  Target audience: Provider Staff PLEASE TAKE ZOOM COURSE ON A TABLET OR LAPTOP- NOT A CELL PHONE

Prevention and Support is a mandatory course that will focus on positive relationships, positive behavioral support, proactive strategies and how to identify a true behavioral emergency. Students will also learn how to calmly respond and support individuals with challenging behaviors. Students will learn which emergency physical intervention techniques to use when a behavioral and/or physical emergency is in progress. This course is required for all staff working in DDD, care homes and day programs.Duration - 9 Hours (8 Hours for Training and 1 Hour for Lunch)This certification is valid for 3 years.Prevention and Support training involves physical techniques that will require the participants to participate in some strenuous activity. This course is not recommended to individuals with these certain physical conditions, but not limited to, knee injuries, back injuries, pregnancy, spinal cord injuries, inability to use any body part normally. Required Clothing for Prevention and Support:                                                                                                  Closed toed shoes. NO HEELS tennis shoes are recommended.Clothing that is comfortable to move around in. (i.e. Jogging pants, Yoga pants, leggings, jeans NO DRESSES OR SKIRTS)

This course will provide you with an overview of PBS so that you are better equipped to analyze a member’s behavior, understand the function of their behavior, and to develop and implement a PBS plan.
